Dehydration Lowers Energy

Dehydration Lowers Energy by Wellbrocks: Ministering through natural health education

The body contains about 70% water. This figures out to be around 100 pounds of water in a 150 pound person. Imagine this, nearly 12 full gallons of water (a gallon of water weighs 8.4 pounds). What happens when you lose this water? Losing a quart, you might not be able to stay well focused. Losing a gallon, you might develop a headache or backache. Losing two gallons might land you right in the emergency room at a hospital! According to F. Batmanghelidi, MD, in his book entitled, Your Body’s Many Cries for Water, dehydration is at the roots of almost every degenerative disease.

Symptoms of Dehydration

Do you get thirsty? Does your mouth get dry? If yes, then you are already battling with dehydration. When the body is about one quart low you start to become thirsty. This is actually a sign of dehydration, not just a sign you need to drink a little water. Other signs of dehydration are low energy, brain fog, general stiffness, and acid reflux.

The next time you are thirsty, ask yourself how long ago you had some water. Then make sure you drink water a little sooner the next time. To maintain adequate hydration you need to drink a cup of water every two hours or so. Water needs to be evenly distributed throughout all of your tissues. When you don’t drink often enough, some areas of your body will begin to dehydrate, while waiting for more water.

Are you Hungry or Thirsty?

The next time you think you are hungry, try drinking a cup of water. If you aren’t hungry in ten minutes, you simply needed water. Your stomach fluids might have become too concentrated from dehydration. This is a great dieting tip if you find yourself snacking all the time. Sometimes drinking water overcomes a constant urge to eat.

What Areas of the Body Need Water?

The body is composed of numerous fluid systems: blood, lymph, chyme, bile, saliva, urine, mucus, sweat, tears, cerebrospinal fluid (brain/spine), pleural fluid (lungs), and synovial fluid (joints). What happens if these areas becomes dehydrated? It is worth discussing, because dehydration may lead to serious illness if left unchecked.

A person has 4-5 quarts of blood (around 7% of body weight) flowing through arteries, veins, and capillaries. When the blood level dips low you might sense poor circulation or light headedness. When lymph nodes become dry they tend to be firm. Chyme, bile, and saliva are all digestive juices. Gas, bloating, and indigestion might be signs of a dry digestive system. The following pictures are fluid systems that you might not be familiar with.

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) surrounds the brain and the spinal cord. When it becomes dehydrated your head and back may be stiff and achy.

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) fills the meningia surrounding the brain and the spinal cord. When the meningia becomes dehydrated, your brain and spinal cord have a lot less fluid standing as a buffer between the skull and your brain, and the spine and the nerves. Have you ever had a headache or backache where every movement created pressure on the meningia? That hurts! The entire back may be so dehydrated that a slight move could trigger a shooting pain.

When the lining of your lungs becomes dehydrated your chest might feel tight and breathing may be difficult. When the lining of your lungs becomes dehydrated your chest feels tight and breathing may be difficult. With dehydration, your body creates histamine which causes tissues to be coated with mucus to prevent further drying and protect them from irritation. If you have difficulty breathing after exercise, drink a couple glasses of water to rehydrate your lungs. Without proper hydration, a person might depend upon inhalers to counteract natural histamine production that was meant to create a protective layer. During a high intensity activity drink plenty of water for proper hydration.

When synovial fluid between joints dries up they may stiffen up, losing mobility.

When synovial fluid between joints dries up they stiffen up, losing mobility. With chronic dehydration, the space in your knees between the upper and lower leg bones may become so thin that the bones actually create friction on each other, wearing the cartilage down. Did you ever hear a clicking noise in a knee? This signals a critical time to drink water to rehydrate the knee joint! It might take time, but keep drinking until the knee is moving smoothly again. Other joints lubricated with synovial fluid besides the knees are: ankles, hips, wrists, elbows, and shoulders. “Roughly 7 million people in the United States are living with a total hip or knee replacement. More than 600,000 knees and about 400,000 hips are replaced in the U.S. each year.”Hydration is a preventive measure for these conditions.

Make sure to Drink only Purified Water

As you can see, dehydration is a broad topic and I’ll continue discussing it in future articles. Make sure you have read the first article in this section, “Hydration for more Energy” to learn about the importance of water purification. If you don’t have access to pure water, it is important to order a Multipure water filter soon. It isn’t wise to drink toxic water trying to become healthier!

The body is a hydro-electric system being 70% water and also having an electrical energy field. When a car engine runs low on oil, it overheats and has malfunctions. Our body is very similar. When we are dehydrated many functions don’t perform well. Perhaps, some symptoms are not a disease, but simply dehydration? Water is quite an inexpensive remedy!
